The Vision
Fortress Missions exists to expose the emerging church to the biblical mandate to reach the poor and the lost through exuberant worship, selfless service, life on life evangelism and deliberate acts of heroic compassion.
MANDATE
Fortress Missions was launched in the spring of 2001 with the mandate to expose students, adults and families to an authentic urban mission experience that encompasses a balanced blend of worship, justice, compassion, servant leadership and intimacy and obedience to the Father.
MISSION
Our mission is to create a Spirit-led mission experience where students and their adult leaders can enjoy the presence of the Holy Spirit while they embrace the biblical mandate to serve the needs of the fatherless, widows, lost and oppressed. We believe that we are training the body of Christ for Spirit-led works of compassion that are a direct response of obedience to the infallible Word of God and the intimacy we experience in worship.
REFORMATION
As an inner-city ministry, we are bringing reformation to the Body of Christ and raising up supernaturally empowered revolutionaries who are committed to standing in the gap on behalf of the "least of these." We see ourselves as "gatekeepers" entrusted with the sacred responsibility of creating an atmosphere to lead students and adults into their God ordained destiny by experiencing Jesus and the Kingdom of God in action in service to the poor.
SPIRITUAL DNA
Each member of the Fortress Missions staff are full-time missionaries. As a community of believers living and serving behind enemy lines, the Father has deposited in us certain spiritual DNA that enables us to hear the cry of the Fatherless, respond to the needs of the widow and single mother and destroy the works of the devil in a community almost completely abandoned by the contemporary American church. Our desire is to transfer or, as we often say, "download" what we have learned to every student and adult that spends time with us on our strategically designed mission experience.
COLLISION COURSE WITH DESTINY
From the birth of our missions program we have endeavored to open and maintain clear channels of communication with prospective youth pastors, church leaders and volunteer group leaders. We believe that every group that visits our ministry is on a collision course with destiny; therefore, our mission director will spend a great deal of time researching your group's needs and the group leader's goals for each student, as well as the group as a whole, prior to your trip. We believe it is vital to plan a mission experience with your desires in mind. Furthermore, we have designed our program to allow your group's adult volunteers and staff the freedom to "love on your students" while our team takes care of everything else.
LEADERSHIP EQUALS FRIENDSHIP
As an inner-city ministry that continues to serve the needs of our community after the last mission team returns to their homes, we know that friendship is vital. It has been our experience that leadership must be in friendship; therefore, we are not only offering you what we believe is one of the best youth and family mission experiences in the country, but we are offering true friendship that will remain long after your experience has ended. Many of our staff are available to visit youth groups and churches that have visited us to maintain our relationship and even help put into practice the outreach and evangelism strategies that they learned while they were at our ministry site. Friendship is just that important to us.
