The Meal of Hope is a weekly community potluck dinner and bible study, which offers
fellowship and prayer along with practical bible studies that will help the new
believer and encourage the mature Christian in achieving victory through an overcoming
life.
Jesus told the Tempter in Luke 4:4, "It is written, 'Man shall not live
by bread alone, but by every word of God.'"
The truth is that our brothers and sisters from the inner city are tempted
daily with despair, loneliness, darkness and hunger. They often feel isolated,
and the battles they face, they are left to face alone. Satan would like nothing
more than to isolate our friends living in the battlegrounds of our inner cities
and to simply, steal their hope.
Yet, we rejoice for there is a Hope! His name is Jesus! Jesus has commissioned
those with His Spirit to stand between the living and the dead. We can bring
a restoration of fellowship and strength through something as simple as sitting
down and sharing a meal with one another.
The first century Church garnered much of the courage needed to overcome her
early persecutions by gathering together for 'Love Feasts'. In the Book of Acts
2:40-47, Luke tells us that the early Christians congregated daily for fellowship,
teaching, prayers and the breaking of bread.
Persecutions and injustice still invade our society today. In fact, they run
rampant through the tenement buildings of John Henry Hale and Andrew Jackson;
however, our Father in Heaven has given us a 'key' to the Kingdom, a plan that
works to stave off despair, loneliness and hunger. Luke called them 'Love Feasts';
we call it The Meal of Hope-hope for despair, fellowship for loneliness, bread
for hunger, and The Word of God for the power to transform lives!
We are returning to the 'original'; we're building the Kingdom one relationship
at a time.
The Meal of Hope is on Thursday nights at 5:30pm in
The Foundry.
